285 - A Hymn to The Eternal

Over a decade ago, five women rabbinic students began to tap into the energy of healing first voiced by Moses when he prayed for his sister, Miriam. Moses' prayer was simple but efficacious: "Oh God, please heal her!" Now there are over 20 Jewish Healing Centers throughout the United States and Canada doing this ancient and modern work of healing and comforting. Next Sunday and Monday, the Jewish Healing Network of Chicago is presenting programs for the community and for healthcare professionals and clergy. How wonderful to have this new center in my hometown.

A Hymn to The Eternal

You come, Divine Healer, in the fragile moments,
You shore up the fractures of illness;
You place Your armature within us,
It becomes the structure of our resilience.

You come to us. In pain and confusion
We sense Your layered comfort:
Padding to ease pressure, pillows of hope.
You bolster our courage.

In the dark hours of dying, You come in light,
You illuminate final days;
You kindle a beacon against finality's suddenness,
Guiding both the beloved and those who mourn.

Even when anger denies You, You will come.
You cannot stray from the bedside, the grave,
For our need still calls,
And You hasten to our side.

You come to heal with wholeness,
Though bodies fail, though tears fall;
You come to us as we celebrate recovery,
As we dance together at the coming of new days.
