267 - New Pursuits

June 12, 2002

Ten years ago, my friend Beth became the school secretary at Beth Emet The Free Synagogue. We had first thought of sharing the position, but my physical realities got in the way. Beth did more than take a job. She created systems and customs that helped Hyma Levin, the Director of Education, build the Religious School into an outstanding program. Beth is leaving to pursue a master's degree. She should be proud of what she helped to establish.

Two Hundred Sixty-Seven

New Pursuits

You call me, Holy One, to flourish,
To acknowledge summer's growing days;
I survey fields I turned and tended for Your honor,
They yielded their harvest; now I cultivate my own.

Years of endeavor built a storehouse,
You guided me as I filled each room with mitzvot.
As I piled them high with necessity and innovation,
My work felt pleasing in Your sight.

Now I hear the charge to learn and grow,
To gather my experience and dedication;
I withdraw the bounty I helped create,
You succor me as I prepare new furrows.
