261 - Convalescence

May 2, 2002

I am discovering the privilege of being the caretaker. I am finding my strength in the daily tasks that are enhancing my husband's recovery from heart attack and coronary artery bypass surgery two weeks ago. Reid is doing well, taking longer and longer walks, paying attention to his diet. It feels good to care for him.

Two Hundred Sixty-One

Convalescence

Settle us, Divine Healer, in these days of recovery;
They are a Midwestern spring: warmth, then cold rain.
Make our new life rhythms gentle,
Your hand marks the cadence of our adaptations.

Reach into this sphere of caring,
Guard us both, patient and helper;
Let rest come, sleep and healing dreams,
Let morning find our strength renewed.

We thank You for this boon of survival,
Your precious gift;
Help us focus on each day, near future,
As we accumulate time's bounty.
