164 - For Traveling to Israel

My young friend, Jordy, has been accepted into the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. He will enter in Fall, 2002. Next week, he leaves for Israel, to spend the year in ulpan - intensive Hebrew language study - and then to work. It is a difficult time to be living in Israel; it is always a wonderful time to be living in Israel. I have known Jordy since he and my daughter were in the same Hebrew school carpool. I never thought then that he would choose this path. I share his parents' pride and their worry.

One Hundred Sixty-Four

For Traveling to Israel

As You bless the voyager, my Guide,
Bless as well my voyage.
May my sojourn in the Land bring discovery;
Let me learn amidst the ancient stones.

Surround me with safety as I walk new paths,
Your strong arm my shield and comfort;
Help me uncover fresh truths in commonplace realities,
Signs of hope in daily encounters.

Bring me safely home at journey's end,
Refreshed with learning and adventure,
Reaffirmed in my devotion,
Rededicated to Your service.
